Hello!
It’s a new year and we’ve started with a bang … in the U.S., anyway! It feels like a bit of a crazy time, which is at least one way to stay awake through January, right? Luckily we’ve had ALSSI to distract us—this month has been incredibly busy around here! Thank goodness there’s always cake, as long as someone is willing to bake one, and it feels like we’re going to need lots of cake in 2025 … Whew! How can we only be one month into this year?
First—
We’re changing a few things up here, and want to let you know. What used to be our normal newsletter message is now going to come to you as a separate Say More email. The 2nd Say More issue of the month will be the same one you’re used to receiving, if you’re a paid subscriber. If you’re not, we’re going to be lifting the paywall on all issues after 30 days, so you’ll have full access a few weeks after the initial publication.
As for our Friday Live Chats, we’re going to try mixing those up a bit. That means we’ll hold more LIVE-live chats on Zoom some months, beginning in February. Our RS Sunday posts and All-CAPS Wednesdays will continue as usual in the Substack chat.
"We must be impatient for change. Let us remember that our voice is a precious gift and we must use it."
—Claudia Flores, Clinical Professor, University of Chicago Law School
Speaking of Say(ing) More,
We need your submissions! Remember when you publish with us, you receive a free subscription that you can keep or gift to a friend. We are interested in your personal essays and stories, poetry, art—any way you can think of to say what you need to say, we want to see it!
Need some prompts to help you get started? Our Say More curator Blakelee Ellis has a few ideas for you:
Send submissions to atlastshewritesit@gmail.com. You can find submission guidelines in our website menu, or click here.
Save the Date:
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to let us know you’ve already pre-ordered our upcoming book! Your support means so much, and makes all the hard work worthwhile. The book will available in paperback, e-book, and as an audiobook! It is scheduled for release April 28, and our first signing event is tentatively scheduled for May 10 in Salt Lake City. More info to follow about that event.
The book promises to make this a busy year, but we’re excited for more opportunities to gather in-person with the ALSSI community! We hope to do events in several cities—if you have a venue you think would be great, or would perhaps like to host a book event, please let us know! We want to begin getting dates on the calendar. We’d love to do a few where we live of course (UT and AZ), but are also willing to travel! Have an idea for a book-signing gathering? Email us at atlastshesaidit@gmail.com
Speaking of which …
Our team is looking for a little help! We need someone to coordinate our episode transcripts. This involves about 60-90 mins of work per week, and comes with a tiny paycheck that is in no way an accurate reflection of our BIG gratitude.
We’re also looking for a party lover who would enjoy helping us plan and coordinate book events this year, probably mostly late spring/early summer.
In addition, we’re looking for someone to help with social media book promotion. Are you really good at creating cool posts, slides, reels, or anything else you can think of that we haven’t? We’d love to talk to you!
If you’re interested in helping our team behind the scenes in any of these ways, please let us know via email!
Calendar:
Don’t Forget!
Our next At Last She Read It Book Club meeting is April 10. Start reading now! You’ll be able to register on our website under Events when the meeting gets closer. Stay tuned for details.
Thanks again!
To everyone who supported us so generously in 2024, we can’t thank you enough.
Now…bring on February!
Warmly,
Cynthia, Susan
& the ALSSI Team
Re the book - I’m going to wait to order as from what I could tell looking at the Amazon Canada site it will be more cost effective to wait till it’s available here.
I pre-ordered your book too! Can't wait to read it! ❤️
