Hello!
Almost August already? Yes, summer’s cruising along here in MN where I’m writing this. Actually, today summer’s dripping along as we’re drowning in midwestern corn sweat this week with triple digit heat indexes. I could actually go for a little dry heat about now…
Which means I’m in luck!
Cynthia and I will be at the Signature Books table, signing and saying hello at the Sunstone Symposium August 1-2 at the University of Utah in SLC.

They’re celebrating 50 years of Sunstone this year, and also 50 years of Exponent II. We feel honored to have been invited to participate in a panel discussion featuring the authors of 50 Years of Exponent II, Saturday morning, August 2, at 9:00 am in the Saltair room.
Session Description:
Authors Katie Ludlow Rich and Heather Sundahl will discuss their book Fifty Years of Exponent II (Signature Books, 2024) with a panel of critics. Fifty Years of Exponent II chronicles the evolution of a groundbreaking Mormon feminist publication that has created space for women’s voices, questions, and community across generations. This history reveals how women and gender minorities—often on the margins—shaped conversations around gender, faith, and power within and beyond the LDS Church. Joining the authors will be discussion moderator Millie Tullis (she/they), the new editor-in-chief of Exponent II magazine; Maxine Hanks, author of Women and Authority: Re-emerging Mormon Feminism; Susan Hinckley and Cynthia Winward, hosts of the At Last She Said It podcast; and Blaire Ostler, author of Queer Mormon Theology.
Single session tickets will be available at the door for $20 each. Whether you’re attending the symposium, enjoying a single session, or just stopping by to say hi, we hope to see you there!
“Some of the challenges women face today are unique. Others are grounded in enduring traditions. Serious engagement with the past can help us distinguish one from the other.”
—Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, Fifty Years of Exponent II
Preview of Coming Attractions:
“Well if I think I am worthy, but an ecclesiastical leader doesn’t, do I go with my inner voice or do I trust his? What does it mean to be worthy? Do I feel like I can communicate with God? And what does that look like if I am not entering the temple? Where do I do these things, how do I do these things?”
—Kajsa Berlin-Kaufusi
That’s right—it’s a sneak preview, because Kajsa’s coming back next week to join us on Episode 225. Whether you’re a fan of the 6 previous episodes she’s recorded with us, or you heard her at a live event, or you’re new to Kajsa’s voice and want to know whether she lives up to the hype (she does!) you won’t want to miss it!
You also won’t want to miss August’s LIVE-Live Friday Chat. Kajsa will be joining our paid-subscriber community for our discussion August 1 at 10:00 am Mtn. We’ll drop the Zoom link in the regular thread the morning of. No registration is required!

Looking for an outlet?
Words burning a hole in your pocket? We’d love to publish your writing in Say More! No matter what you need to say, there’s bound to be someone who needs to hear it. From our submission guidelines:
Say More is a Substack publication of the At Last She Said It project. Our goal is to amplify a diversity of Latter-day Saint women’s voices and experiences at the intersection of our faith, church, family, and personal lives. We want to support all women, with the understanding that though we may share many things in common, each journey is an individual one.
Submissions should be centered in personal experience and may be a variety of genres and formats: art, poetry, personal essays, short reflections, book reviews, voicemails, and emails are welcome. If you have an idea but are unsure whether it will be a good fit, feel free to query. Otherwise, submit the completed piece for consideration.
Publication comes with a 6 month paid subscription you can use yourself or gift to a friend. ALSSI team member Blakelee Ellis curates this beautiful monthly collection of women’s voices, and will help your submission shine! Whether you’re a first-time writer or seasoned pro looking to expand your reach, you can find more details about having your work considered for publication here.

"midwestern corn sweat" ? Cue the eyeroll. :) Although I have to admit, between days like today (currently 62 and fog burning off, recovering from the sauna of the last week) it has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Even the dog seems puzzled.
