I’ve been the Unofficial-but-sorta-Official-by-default photographer in my family since 2006 when I bought my first Nikon dSLR camera. Nearly 20 years later I am now on my fourth Nikon, now photographing my kiddos’ adulthood, our family travels, and Big Moments like graduations. It has been a real joy AND ALSO IT TICKS ME OFF that I am hardly in any of the pics.
Now that we all have phones with cameras in our pockets I have asked my kids to please—please— just photograph me ‘in the wild’ once in a while so that there is documentation that indeed I do exist. Glennon Doyle even had a podcast episode a couple years ago called “Why Are There No Pictures of Us?” and I have never felt so seen in my life.
